It’s small-just enough room for clothes, shoes, my laptop, and a few odds and ends (comb, deodorant, Mexican balero, a copy of Todd May’s Death). So I switched it up and got a ventilated gym bag, with a separate pouch for shoes. Thing is, the running gear tended to stink up the bag (especially after my run) and my grimy shoes were just bouncing around in there unless I tossed them in a grocery bag (and then they really got smelly.) Throwing it all in a backpack was my default for the longest time, since the backpack I owned had a computer slot. I’ve tried old grocery bags and totes, backpacks and gym bags, and one winter day, when I couldn’t find anything else, I even tried just stuffing my shoes, shirt, and tights into the oversized pockets of an old overcoat and carrying the laptop under my arm. Now, I’ve tried a lot of different ways to get all that stuff to work. What that means is that I need to bring a specific assortment of gear to work: laptop, phone, and running gear-a pair of shoes, shorts or tights, and a short or long sleeve shirt. Maybe I’m in a unique situation, but I don’t think so: I’m an office worker who likes to run at lunch, when I can.
